25 Years of Guitar

Friday, July 15, 2011

Today marks the 25th anniversary of my first guitar lesson! Despite starting on the guitar at a young age, I remember that lesson like it was yesterday. My teacher gave me four basic chords to learn and sent me on my way. At the time, I was more interested in the concept of playing guitar than being a guitarist, but soon enough, I was introduced to the guitar wizardry of Eddie Van Halen's solo piece Eruption and it was all over.

I eventually outpaced the theory and guitar playing my teacher was capable of sharing, so after a year of lessons I delved into numerous guitar magazines and pursued the self-taught approach. If I had to choose one an artistic pursuit out of all of the creative outlets I pursue, playing guitar would be favourite. However, it's been sorely underrepresented in the public eye. I plan to change this in the next 12 months.

I'm marking the anniversary by finally getting down to business and completing a couple of guitar-oriented albums I've been slowly working on in the past ten years. I figured it was best to finish them before the world ended, so stay tuned for some Motionblur Music in 2011 and 2012.
